Climate-friendly vacation with the forest share

Buy forest shares, plant trees and protect the nature of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.

With the symbolic purchase of a piece of forest environmentally conscious vacationers could use the chance since the year 2007 to participate with the forest share in the emergence of the forest and arrange their vacation thereby CO2-neutral.

You can contribute to climate protection with an environmentally conscious vacation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern with various offers. Four „Ökowertpapiere“ help to offset the CO2 emissions caused by your vacation:

  • Forest share: With it, additional climate change-adapted reforestation projects become possible, and their effect unfolds directly at your travel destination. Annual public planting campaigns invite holidaymakers and hosts, families and businesses to help out and provide interesting information about the forests in MV. The forest share itself can be taken home, or you can simply buy it online for yourself, friends and relatives .
  • Streuobstgenussschein: Supports the planting and maintenance of meadow orchards.
  • HeckenScheck: Promotes the planting of hedges to connect the habitats of over 1,000 animal species.
  • MoorFutures: Facilitates the rewetting of drained moors and thus the sequestration of carbon dioxide in the moor.

Further information on the valorization of ecosystem services can be found at "Competence Center Ökowertpapiere: Zukunft durch naturbasierte Lösungen".

What is the forest share

The forest share, like all four forest securities, is not a tradable share that you can trade on the stock exchange, but a donation to improve your carbon footprint. With it, you make an individual contribution to climate protection.

The forest share nevertheless follows a very sustainable principle „secured dividend, daily distribution, more than 100 years of growing profit“. The newly planted trees generate the dividend continuously: they are constantly growing and absorbing the CO2 present in the air. The oxygen released daily is the basis of our lives and should also benefit future generations.

A forest area of approx. 10 m² can offset the holiday-related CO2 emissions of a family of four in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, including travel, a two-week stay and leisure activities: The biomass of the resulting wood binds approx. 500 kg of carbon dioxide.

Our climate forests

Since the start of the project in 2007, 19 climate forests have already been planted in all parts of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, covering a total area of around 100 hectares with various climate-resilient tree species as mixed forests. Over 100,000 forest shares have been purchased by vacationers, locals and companies to date. The climate forests themselves also become an experience: information boards, guided tours and educational events provide information about the potential of the growing wood and other ways to protect the climate, and holidaymakers can actively participate in regular tree plantings.

High demands are placed on the areas for our climate forests. It goes without saying that they must be suitable for the development of forests and climate-resilient tree species from a forestry perspective. However, the long-term safeguarding of the growth and preservation of the forests, for example against deforestation and conversion to building or agricultural land, is also essential when selecting the areas that are to be under national sovereignty for these reasons.

Not least, our climate forests should also be easily accessible for our forestry activities. Be it to take part in the annual planting campaigns, but also to find out about the special characteristics of your“ forest and to follow the growth of the trees over a long period of time.

&By the way: If you want to keep your CO2 emissions low from the outset, many tourism businesses offer sustainable options. Be it exciting alternatives to the car, regional or saving water and energy in certified eco-friendly accommodation.
