The best kitespots in MV

At some spots the car is parked directly at the sunbathing area for rigging - gentle on the material and energy-saving. Especially the playful standing areas challenge you to experiment.

Maneuver training in the standing area with wind from the southeast to the northwest and exciting jumps can be found in Ückeritz on Usedom. Neither groynes nor piers disturb the kite fun on waves up to three meters high with strong easterly winds in Karlshagen.

It gets really choppy when kitesurfing on the Baltic Sea in Gahlkow, near Greifswald, with a 180-degree rideable wind range and challenging gusts when the wind blows from the west-southwest. If you want to strengthen your freeride skills, head to one of the kite spots on Rügen in Pritzwald or to the nearby Rosengarten, the more relaxed alternative with small jumps and characteristic island thermals.Stronger easterly winds due to the island profile await kiters in Dranske.More adventurous is Neu Mukran with an extremely large fetch wave that is higher and longer, despite breakwaters when the wind is from the northeast. With the same wind direction, Prerow is also popular with crystal clear water and white sandy beach.

Relaxed parking, westerly winds that are strengthened by land thermals when the sun is shining, 500 meters of standing area - Saal is simply relaxed. After the calm comes the challenge in Wustrow. This is where the scene hustles and bustles, especially for the "Jump and Style" and the "German Kitesurf Open". Another hotspot on the Baltic Sea is Warnemünde, which has its own kite entry point at Aufgang 13.

It doesn't always have to be waves and the Baltic Sea: smooth water with onshore winds on the eastern shore of the Wieker Bodden provide plenty of power under the wing. Retgendorf on Lake Schwerin is ideal for fast riding and offers perfect bump-and-jump conditions in stronger westerly winds.

And when the snow comes, MV offers numerous meadows and fields for snowkiting.

Surf Schools & Kite Camps

In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, beginners can learn to surf at numerous kite schools run by VDWS-certified kite instructors, either as an intensive course in private lessons or at a one-week surf camp.

A personal kitesurf license card documents the level reached and is helpful for renting equipment or when dealing with local authorities.

Kite equipment rental

Through the rental companies you also have the hotline to the equipment suppliers: Many manufacturers offer their latest products for practical testing and are happy to receive feedback from the athletes. There are only a few classic test centers, but especially in the summer season, test festivals are held as part of the large beach parties that last several days and invite you to try them out. So let's go: rent, try, kite! Below you will find the individual providers for renting kite equipment. You get the full equipment with wetsuit, kiteboard, kite and harness vest.

Respect the nature

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is rich in nature and biodiversity. For this reason, it is especially important that you inquire about the protected areas and resting zones for the local animals.
Sensitive areas include reed zones and reed beds, which you should keep your distance from. You should also find out about the water sports possibilities in the nature reserves. Some of these areas are closed to water sports all year round or can only be used at certain times.

You can find all rules on our pages about quality and safety or at our partners of surflocal.de. In addition, every surf school in MV has instructions for water sports enthusiasts for navigating the waters on site.

An overview of all nature reserves can be found on the page of the National Natural Landscapes of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
