Surfing vacation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern: Surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing

Where water and wind meet on the Baltic Sea coast in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, wave fun is guaranteed for water sports enthusiasts. The prevailing winds, often from the west and northwest, also provide numerous surfing spots for windsurfing and kitesurfing, and there are also a few beautiful spots inland.

All spots are quick and easy to reach by car, and you can usually park directly on the meadow or beach.

Surfspots at the Baltic Sea: The Best Beaches for Surfing

Besides Warnemünde, the spot in Barendorf, near Wismar in the Bay of Lübeck, offers less hustle and bustle with the best wind from the west and a fine beach.Beginners to professional surfers cavort in Neuhaus on the Darß peninsula, with the best wind from the southwest, which can sometimes bring waves up to 3 meters high. On normal days, these waves run cleanly over an offshore sandbank.
Professionals who want real action and are not afraid of a somewhat tedious outward journey will find real challenges in Kreptitz on the island of Rügen.

Have you already ridden the infamous Ferry Wave in Warnemünde?

Especially popular and unique in Germany are the ferry waves in Warnemünde: Every two hours on the minute, the Baltic ferries wash outgoing wave crests between 50 and 150 centimeters high onto Rostock's wide, white sandy beach - perfect standing waves.

Respect Nature

Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is rich in nature and biodiversity. For this reason, it is especially important that you inquire about the protected areas and quiet zones for local animals.
Sensitive areas include reed zones and reed beds, which you should keep your distance from. You should also find out about the water sports possibilities in the nature reserves. Some of these areas are closed to water sports all year round or can only be used at certain times.
In addition, every surf school in MV has instructions for water sports enthusiasts for navigating the waters on site.
An overview of all nature reserves can be found on the page of the National Natural Landscapes of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
