A family vacation in the countryside in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is not only captivating because of its nature-oriented recreation, but above all offers plenty of room for exciting discoveries on the numerous adventure farms.Apples straight from the tree, potatoes fresh from the field, eggs from the farm and milk from the barn -- in rural tranquility, the farmers explain to curious children how the cow is milked and the sheep sheared or the beets come out of the ground.Traditional crafts can be admired in living open-air museums and huge art barns. Here, people still make pottery, felt, knit and bake just like in grandma's day.

Adventure farms and animal destinations

On our adventure farms, fun and games are in the foreground. Ride with the Kettcars over the terrain, climb high in the climbing garden or make the hayloft in the barn unsafe, whether pony rides or alpaca hike - boredom does not arise here. The animal inhabitants of the farm, whether chickens, sheep or donkeys, look forward to visitors and are happy to be fed and even petted. With the farmer it goes through the stable and who likes may try themselves gladly times with milking a cow or give the calf the bottle. Particularly in the vacations times there is a multicolored program for all age groups. And while the children make the farm unsafe, the adults can enjoy a little time out with coffee and cake in the farm café.

Experience agriculture

What exactly do you actually do in the field? Why do you need such big tractors? And what happens to the milk until it is packaged? Questions upon questions... Today, one farmer feeds about 140 people. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern - as in the other new federal states - the agricultural structure is dominated by large farms that practice modern agriculture due to the land reform. Some of these farms give guests the opportunity to look behind the scenes.

During a tour of a dairy farm, visitors can learn what the cows eat, the advantages of modern barn construction, and why milking is so important in the first place. At the end, there's always a short detour to see the cute little calves. Harvest enthusiasts can lend a hand and unearth their own fruit. In MV, you can help bring in asparagus, potatoes and sea buckthorn. There are also self-picking fields for strawberry lovers.

Technology enthusiasts really get their money's worth on a large farm. In order to be able to ensure the professional cultivation of the large areas, quite a bit of horsepower is necessary, which does not only make it to the farm in the form of tractors and combine harvesters. Have you ever seen a beet harvester, for example?

Living museums and hands-on activities

As always, horses' hooves clatter over humped cobblestones and the bubbling of a tractor blows through the colorful meadows. Exciting adventure farms and living museums, where visitors of all ages can be creative themselves, tell of old crafts. Who today still knows what a working day in the countryside was like for our grandparents and great-grandparents, or how grain was harvested and bread baked?

Young vacationers and their parents can explore the country life of bygone times in open-air museums and on historic farms. Curious visitors can learn what rural life was like in the past with the help of old machines and tools as well as lovingly collected mementos. Children can rummage everywhere, climb up on old combine harvesters and even take the big steering wheel in their own hands once in a while. From the historic mill to fresh bread from the wood-burning oven, from sheep shearing to spun wool thread - traditional crafts are brought back to life here.
