Trail riding is the name given to the multi-day hikes on horseback from riding station to riding station. The focus is on the experience of nature, the slow, original and environmentally friendly way of traveling, as well as getting to know the landscape and the horse better. Depending on the circumstances, overnight stays are made in the open air, in tents, on the farm or on Pferdehöfen
with appropriate overnight accommodation for horse and rider. The luggage is carried either on the trail horse in saddle bags in front and behind the saddle, on a pack horse that is carried along, or by trosser, a companion who takes care of horse and rider.
White beaches, rugged cliffs carved by wind and water, endless fields, lakes and hills ... Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's nature is diverse and wide, very wide. Whoever climbs into the saddle here must be prepared not to meet a soul for hours on end while riding through the woods to the next riding station. In some Regionen
, such as the Szczecin Lagoon in Western Pomerania, a water bottle and provisions are part of the basic equipment of every trail rider. In other areas, cafés and restaurants invite you to linger, and are equipped to accommodate guests arriving on horseback.
Multi-day riding tours
If you spend several days on horseback, you will get to know the country and its people. Many riding guests look for a fixed starting point, to which they return again and again, others sleep evening after evening in a new place.
There are many possibilities for multi-day tours of various kinds. Mecklenburg Switzerland in the heart of the country, for example, is a worthwhile destination. The mini low mountain range is characterized by hills that make mountain hikers smile, but which offer beautiful views in the otherwise flat North German plain. Here, riders stroll through avenues and well-preserved old villages with cobblestone streets, gnarled oaks and original fieldstone churches. Castles and manor houses stand close together - those who wish can admire three or four of them in a single day during their trail ride.
