Mecklenburg with its castles and lakes is not only beautiful, but also comparatively invitingly flat. The perfect terrain for a cycle tour with the whole family on the Mecklenburg Lakes Cycle Route.

Royal castle from a fairytale book

The 290 kilometers between Ludwigslust and Neubrandenburg, for example, can easily be packed into a multi-day family tour and are full of highlights. The first one sparkles right at the start in Ludwigslust – it is Schloss Ludwigslust, which looks like a real royal castle from a fairytale book. And delights young and old alike. After a guided tour of the classicist complex, everyone is guaranteed to understand why Ludwigslust Palace is also known as the "Mecklenburg Versailles". Or „Sanssouci of the North“.

Endless swimming breaks

The countless lakes that have given the Mecklenburg Lake District its name shine like blue eyes to the left and right of the cycle path. Jump in? Of course! It's the vacations. With a bit of luck, families might even get to see one of Germany's most colorful birds, the kingfisher, at Lake Plau. A stop at the Müritz – the largest lake in Germany – is also a must. On the sandy beach in Klink, it almost feels like being by the sea. Park your bike, put on your swimming trunks and head into the water. And a big ice cream afterwards!

Triumphant finish

This tour ends in the medieval town of Neubrandenburg with a triumphant finish through one of the four Gothic brick gates. How about finishing off with a few relaxing days in the nearby town of Teterow? Here you can visit the historic Teterow Castle Island, swim in Lake Teterow and sail across the water on board the barge Regulus. Or take a look at Europe's largest natural grass track, a popular meeting place for speed crossers and quad bikers. Perhaps there is an exciting race in progress.
