Why you should take care of your health, especially in the older and darker half of the year, and not slip into a "hibernation" like nature, explains Dr. Stephan Vick with simple tips for vacations at the Baltic Sea and everyday life at home.

Why is it particularly important to look after your health and do something good for yourself in the fall and winter?

In autumn and winter in particular, the days get shorter and the season is characterized by cooler temperatures. During this time in particular, the opportunities to be active and healthy in your free time are seemingly limited. However, especially with regard to vegetative regulation processes as well as the functional capacity of the musculoskeletal system, it is important to actively do something for muscular conditioning, functional maintenance, internal stabilization and improvement of the immune system during the colder months of the year.

Does this only apply to older people?

The need to do something to stay healthy in the fall and winter months applies not only to older people, but also to younger people who are still working and want to maintain their physical performance. Particularly in the case of often monotonous workloads with one-sided posture, it is particularly important to balance this out in your free time with adequate exercise and muscular activation in order to prevent illnesses and complaints at this time of year. For older people, it's about maintaining their performance and mobility, especially in the seasons when the days are getting shorter.

What does your hotel offer for a short break for holistic relaxation for body and mind?

In addition to inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation services, the Bad Doberan mud spa also offers the opportunity to do something for your health through your own activities. Complex treatment as part of the Moor Intensive Program is particularly recommended for pain in the back and joints as well as tension in the musculoskeletal system. The focus here is on the use of natural moor. Due to the temperatures used in peat baths and peat packs, the warming effect improves circulation, relaxes the muscles and reduces pain. The repeated use of peat treatments over a certain period of time can also trigger internal regulatory processes.

The actively designed "Healthy Back" program with the specific Doberan functional back program is aimed at younger patients in particular. The focus here is on training the muscles that stabilize the back, muscle relaxation and maintaining or improving function. In addition, the Bad Doberan mud bath also offers individual treatment options as part of the health week or private cure, including for seasonal complaints of the musculoskeletal system.

Finally, do you have any little tips on how we can all do something good for ourselves in the fall?

Everyone, regardless of age, should do something regularly to maintain their health, especially in autumn and winter. First and foremost, and the easiest way to do this is to take a daily walk in the fresh air, which serves to stabilize the vegetative system even in autumn and winter weather and contributes to physical activation through a regular pattern of movement in the arms, legs and back. In addition, preventative and hardening measures can also be carried out in winter in the form of cold water or treading water. The Baltic Sea also offers suitable temperatures in the autumn months for treading water independently in the spa area. A little tip for starting the day in the morning: a cold facial splash refreshes and increases vitality. Afterwards, you can do some stretching exercises on your own in the morning, which you can also learn as part of a health program. With physical activity and fitness, we get through the autumn and winter season and have a prophylaxis against infectious diseases through hardening and inner stabilization.
