A cycle tour along the Bay of Wismar is all about culture, enjoyment and highly relaxed pedaling

Panoramic view of the sea
The best way to start a day on vacation is with a coffee in your hand on Boltenhagen's lakeside bridge, with a panoramic view of the sea. Also because from here you have a wonderful view of the seaside resort's beach and its bizarre cliffs. But then it's time to get on the bike to get to know the Bay of Wismar a little better. First, we cycle through the original Klützer Winkel to Zierow, which lies between fields and meadows on a stretch of coastline on Eggers Wiek. The natural beach there is ideal for a nice refreshing dip.

Cultural break while playing the organ in Wismar
A different kind of highlight awaits in Wismar, one of the cultural centers of Mecklenburg. The Gothic towers of St. Marien, St. Nikolai and St. Georgen immediately catch the eye. In the Nikolaikirche - the largest, but also the youngest church in the city - you might be lucky enough to meet Christian Thadewald-Friedrich, Wismar's young cantor. He gives piano lessons, plays the organ and conducts choirs. He often sits at the organ in the Nikolaikirche and rehearses devotedly for a mass or a concert. Although, as he admits with a wink, he sometimes likes to sneak in a composition of his own.
The last part of the bike tour takes us to Timmendorf harbor on the island of Poel. Here, everything revolves around fresh fish, which you can still buy directly from the cutter. There are no longer too many fishermen who catch turbot, plaice or cod at night. So it's all the better that so many locals and holidaymakers queue up without complaint. They also know that a sunset on the island of Poel - with the lighthouse in the background and a plaice on the plate in front of you - is one of the best ways to end the day in a relaxed manner.
