On the "Eat the World" tour, guests and locals discover many beautiful corners of Rostock - and stop off several times along the way to feast on specialties.
The culinary tour of the city begins with an espresso in the cafeshop especial, where owner Javier Román also serves fair trade chocolate and a portion of stories from his native Nicaragua alongside his regular coffee specialties. And as a guest, you are right in the middle of it all“: in the trading tradition of the Hanseatic city and in the exciting world of coffee cultivation. Javier calls his espresso with cocoa, sugar and whipped milk Romancito. And it causes a real taste explosion in the mouth: bitter, sweet, chocolaty and full of energy. Once you've had your fill, this is the perfect place to stock up on great coffee, fine chocolate and beautiful gifts.
The group strolls through the center of Rostock on the culinary city tour of „Eat the World“ to the next stop, the restaurant „Ritter Runkel“. When Reiner Stüwe took over the traditional restaurant, the medieval ambience was given a facelift – now knights great and small are presented with a twinkle in the eye. The regional cuisine has remained – the participants of the culinary city tour fortify themselves with a tasting portion of a pleasantly spicy kettle goulash. „Our chef loves to prepare sometimes hearty, sometimes maritime snacks for the guests“, says the chef. If you come back to experience the restaurant as a regular guest, you will find traditional meat dishes as well as burgers or fish from the Baltic Sea and the surrounding lakes.
With an appetite for more, the group moves on towards the old town. The path to the liqueur factory is not far, leading past St. Mary's Church and through cobbled streets. Where high-proof spirits used to be produced, there is now a pleasant restaurant with a sunny terrace, perfect in the fall. Liqueurs are still made by hand here. But a delicious breakfast, which you can put together yourself, and international dishes are now the focus. The guests take their seats in anticipation: this time, waitress Thea cheerfully balances plates of matjestatar at the large table, attracting a few envious glances from the neighboring tables. During the culinary tours, the walkers naturally also experience the major sights of Rostock. Depending on the route, these include the historic town hall, the ramparts, the Pelin Gate, the beautiful old gabled houses in Wokrenterstraße and the famous Kerkhoffhaus.
With „Eat the World” you will visit changing cafés, restaurants, bars and delicatessens – and along the way the guides will tell you a lot about their home town. And it's not just the food that's taken care of in the most charming way - the nightcap is also taken care of: today it's available in the "Wunscherfüller“, a store with high-quality gifts right next to the Café Liebreiz. Owner David Seidel not only invented the Bockwurst calendar, he also has many of his other products made by himself. „We help our guests to find the right, individual gift,” says Seidel. „And we offer unusual souvenirs, from a Rostock gin to a home-knitted woollen sock.” He is currently pouring out his rum with the inscription „Rumsegler”, the „Wunscherfüller“ is also suitable as a bar. The mood is good, and the bags are slowly filling up, as is the belly: with fine coffee, souvenirs and maybe even a new outfit.
