On fall vacation with grandma and grandpa

On tour in a motorhome in the Mecklenburg Lake District.

Feeding deer, collecting sea shells, discovering leisure pools and indoor playgrounds. Little Friedrich is traveling with his grandparents. There are little family adventures and great campsites for all weathers.

Climbing high

Since recently, Isolde and Achim have a motorhome that they take on tour – and they like to take little Friedrich with them from time to time. „In the Mecklenburg Lake District there are great pitches and campsites“, says Isolde, „and in the fall you have a free choice and are right by the water. The couple also like to take their grandchildren to one of the family-friendly campsites in the region - there are playgrounds, child-friendly sanitary facilities and, during the autumn vacations, an extra program with craft events, campfires with bread baking and quizzes. This time, the trio chose Neubrandenburg and Neustrelitz: After a trip to the cultural park in the city of four gates, they head to the 30-metre-high Behmshouml;he observation tower, from where they have a gigantically beautiful view of the lake. „We always have lots of ideas“, says Isolde, „but we are guided by our grandson – who should also have his vacation.“ The couple appreciates the freedom that vacations with the motorhome make possible: nothing to book in advance and spontaneous experiences of culture and nature. The adults' two e-bikes and the five-year-old's children's bike are parked in the motorhome garage and are often used for short bike rides to the nearest (indoor) playground or museum. On the way, Friedrich sits in the front child seat and chats with his father about everything they see outside: Horses in the paddock, waterfowl, rocking boats.

    Fun in any weather

The parents also have plans for bad weather days: visit the MüritzTherme in Röbel or the Aquafun Fleesensee. Or discover the huge aquariums with aquatic fish at the Müritzeum nature discovery center in Waren. Some museums have also already been selected: Isolde would like to visit the Burgmuseum Plau am See, Achim the Luftfahrttechnisches Museum Rechlin – and for Friedrich the Waldmuseum Lütt Holthus in the Feldberger Seenlandschaft would probably be just the thing. But at the moment it's sunny every day - as is so often the case here in the sunny corner of Germany - and the three of them prefer to be outside.

    Feeding dwarf goats

The journey continues to Neustrelitz. Isolde has discovered a family café right by the market in the cozy residential town, where the three of them can warm up right away: At „Anna & Otto“ there is not only lunch, but also home-baked cakes – and plenty of space to run around. The concept: the adults have time for themselves, the little ones enjoy the games on offer. Neustrelitz Zoo, with its 40, mainly native animal species, is only a few minutes away by bike. There, the three of them buy a bowl of food and head off to the dwarf goats' enclosure. Isolde takes photos while Grandpa rescues Friedrich from the onslaught of animals. There is a lot going on here in the lake district. The little boy will tell his mother everything on the phone later. But first he sorts his shoes in the evening sun in front of the camper van, which is now parked on the pitch at the town harbor not far from Lake Zierk, and eats dinner with his parents. Then grandma and grandson make themselves comfortable on the bed. Nowhere is a bedtime story more cozy than in a motorhome.
