The amber beaches on the Baltic Sea island of Usedom are perfect for a carefree vacation in serenity and with an island feeling. Take a relaxed stroll along the white beach, go on an excursion into the hinterland or stroll through sleepy fishing villages - just don't rush, because everything good is close together here. Only a few meters separate the Baltic Sea from the Achterwasser, and each of them holds little wonders of nature. The cliffs and adjacent 180-year-old pine forest, the white sandy beach and other destinations can be easily reached by bike, on foot or by water. The best conditions for a healthy and active vacation! If you want to delve even deeper into the secrets of the local nature, the forest ranger or nature park ranger will be happy to guide you to rare orchid species and other treasures that remain hidden to the untrained eye. Here in the heart of Usedom, the four amber beaches of Zempin, Koserow, Loddin and Ückeritz nestle against the coast and delight their guests with their original charm and the amber that gives them their name, which is washed up on the beach with the autumn storms.

Slow down in Zempin
Zempin lies at the narrowest point between the Baltic Sea and the Achterwasser. The smallest of the Bernsteinbäder is big on serenity. In Zempin's idyllic harbor on the Achterwasser and on the beach, you can still feel the pleasant calmness of the former fishing village. This is a wonderful place to unwind and relax throughout the day. On the other hand, sights such as the many thatched-roof houses in the village streets or the 350-year-old oak tree at the fishing harbor attract visitors. His former home, Lüttenort“, which now houses a small museum dedicated to the artist with a sculpture garden, tells the story of the painter Otto Niemeyer-Holstein. Also worth a visit is the old school, the home of the local history association with a reconstructed grocery store from 1928.
Walking across the water in Koserow
Who would expect a futuristic building in a former fishing village? Koserow, the largest of the Bernsteinbäder, shows that tradition and modernity can work well together. Only opened to guests in 2022, the wave-formed pier with barrier-free jetty extends some 300 meters into the Baltic Sea. It ends in a large platform with a stage, spectator benches and a bell tower. This is a wonderful place to stroll, relax and breathe in the sea air. If you like it spectacular, come here when the sun rises or sets.
The Streckelsberg is the highest point on Usedom's Baltic coast at 58 meters. It is said that the seafarer Klaus Störtebeker hid here. And while we're on the subject of superlatives: Koserow is also home to the älst church on the island.

Take a deep breath in Loddin
Natural oases around the Loddiner Höft nature reserve and Lake Kölpinsee as well as rugged cliffs – Loddin guarantees relaxing time-outs and sunsets ripe for the sun. Between forest and water, beach and cliffs, moors and meadows, you can wander around and find peace and quiet. Or you can explore the thatched cottages in the almost 800-year-old village and let your mind wander back in time. If you love flowers, the shores of Lake Kölpinsee are sure to delight. Between April and June, orchids compete in a meadow while black kites circle over the heads of visitors. A seven-kilometre hiking trail leads around the reed-lined gem, from where you can observe hornbills, swans and other birds.
Nature camping in Ückeritz
The most densely wooded seaside resort on Usedom is famous for its two natural campsites. They are committed to the tradition of what was once the largest campsite in Europe. Water sports enthusiasts will find their favorite spot on the Achterwasser. There are popular surf and kite spots, a marina and the Stagnieß natural harbor for unforgettable Achterwasser trips. The 7.5-kilometre-long flat and steep coastal beach on the Baltic Sea side is ideal for building sandcastles, sunbathing and swimming. A popular destination for relaxing walks are the lovingly restored fishermen's cottages, which serve as a retreat for renowned artists.
You can find more excursion tips and details on the page of the Bernsteinbäder.

16 meters above the water level, you have a breathtaking view from the Loddiner Höft over the Achterwasser to the mainland.
On this hilly headland, which juts out into the Achterwasser, with a little luck you can also watch ospreys or sea eagles circling over the Achterwasser on your walks.
Since last year, the seaside resort of Loddin on the picturesque Kölpinsee has been offering a fairy tale adventure trail for little guests.
A total of eleven large fairy tale figures have been set up in the fairy tale park by the lake. If you want, you can bring your own fairy tale book and a picnic blanket and enjoy a leisurely story time with your children or grandchildren with a wonderful view of the lake.
If you don't have a Grimm‘s fairy tale book to hand, technology can help - with a QR code and the internet.
The Baltic seaside resort of Koserow has had a new and unusual landmark since 2021 - the new 300-metre-long seaside bridge. At the end of the bridge, tiered seating and lounging areas offer space for around 150 people to relax, take a deep breath and enjoy smaller cultural events.
You have to search a long time for a more beautiful place to experience the play of colors at sunset over the Baltic Sea.
In the five-metre-high bell tower, which is reminiscent of the sunken city of Vineta, two bells ring every Wednesday at 4 pm after the reading of the Vineta legend. According to legend, the Atlantis of the North was located directly in front of Koserow.
At 58 meters high, the Streckelsberg is the highest elevation on Usedom's outer coast. Those who have hiked through the beech forest to the very top have a fascinating view over the vast Baltic Sea.
Many legends are told about the Streckelsberg. The most famous of these is „The Amber Witch“. But according to legend, the sailor Klaus Störtebeker is also said to have hidden here many years ago.
There is a lot to discover in the smallest seaside resort on the island of Usedom, and the best way to do this is on foot: The vastness of the landscape on the Achterwasser, small thatched cottages that reflect the tradition of fishing in Zempin, and an endless sandy beach.
Für hikers there are various hiking routes, such as the „Alt Zempiner Weg“ or the „Großen Rundweg“.
A signposted nature trail also leads through Zempin, providing lots of interesting facts about nature, history, the country and its people.
The small harbor on the Achterwasser is the perfect place to relax and unwind.
From the spot under the 350-year-old oak tree, you can watch the small fishing boats bobbing back and forth in the harbor, watch the boats sail by on the Achterwasser and rejoice with the anglers as they pull a big fish out of the water.
On the coastal cycle path, which runs across the entire island of Usedom, you can easily get from one amber bath to another.
If you want, you can also join guided cycle tours. Here, the offer ranges from tours through the amber beams and excursions to the island's numerous nature reserves, which are expertly guided by the nature park authority, to trips to the Imperial Baths and Swinoujscie.
Biking on Usedom is particularly beautiful in spring, when the beech forests on the cliffs show their May green, but also through the colorful autumn forest.
