The Peene lives up to its reputation as the "Amazon of the North". On the journey upstream from Anklam to Trittelwitz, the raft moves leisurely along the widely branching river through a pristine valley with fens, forests and floodplains. Idyllically situated resting places, bathing spots and small bays often invite you to take a restful break. Bitterns, spotted crake and curlews breed in the Peen meadows.

At the Viking reloading point in Menzlin, the strong Vikings left their mark on Vorpommern more than ten centuries ago. In Stolpe, the monastery ruins invite you to travel back in time, and a small sandy beach beckons you to cool off.
The raft chugs on through the mysterious landscape to Alt Plestlin, accompanied by sea eagles with majestic wings, colorful kingfishers and meter-long otters. Every now and then a mother duck with her young crosses the path or a grass snake meanders through the water at lightning speed. At Alt Plestlin, a hike through the nearby meadows with colorful orchids and devil's-bit orchids is worthwhile.

The route continues along reeds to the Hanseatic town of Demmin. Here rafters can immerse themselves in the Hanseatic era, e.g. baking bread or archery.
Past marshy meadows, the trip leads through largely untouched nature to Trittelwitz. There is no village far and wide, only a willow now and then and beaver castles on the banks. Beavers have also made their home in the immediate vicinity of the waterway rest area in Trittelwitz. Their busy activity can be observed at dusk or early in the morning before the return trip downstream to Anklam begins.

Water profile

Calm waters with low current and low gradient (30 cm over 75 km). No locks or weirs. Bridge crossings in Loitz and Demmin.
