The country can hardly be more relaxed than on a houseboat. Seh travelers sail from lock to lock on the leisurely river to the fortress and Elbe city of Dömitz. The locks always offer a welcome opportunity to chat with other seafarers and exchange insider tips. Along the way, numerous modern waterway rest areas and marinas invite you to take a break for a swim or an excursion.

On the first leg, the blue ribbon winds through gently undulating meadows, fields and forests to Parchim. With its picturesque nooks and crannies, proud brick churches and cozy inns, Parchim is well worth a mooring. About 3 km behind the Marina Matzlow-Garwitz the Störkanal branches off to Schwerin. If you have time in your duffel bag, you can sail straight to the picture-perfect State capital Schwerin.

After the water crossing, the Lewitz landscape conservation area begins. Dozens of fish ponds glisten to the left and right of the path, where flocks of chattering birds fill their bellies. Between Neustadt-Glewe and Grabow, wide reed belts and rustling pine forests line the banks. Through the deep forests and sandy heaths of the Griesen area, you continue toward the Elbe. At the confluence with the great river lies Dömitz, whose fortress affords a ravishing view of the Elbe valley.

Water profile

The Müritz-Elde waterway is ideal for an extensive vacation on the water. Even inexperienced houseboat captains can enter the water here without hesitation. The Müritz-Elde waterway descends to the Elbe River on 17 lock steps. Please inform yourself about the respective lock times before starting your trip. Special locks are possible. The 44 km long Stör Canal can be navigated to the State capital Schwerin. Refueling is only possible at roadside gas stations.
