Singspiel by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart / Libretto by Emanuel Schikaneder Crossover version by Christoph Hagel / With elements of breakdance, hip-hop and rap
ECHO award-winner and crossover star Christoph Hagel brings his Magic Flute Reloaded to the Volkstheater Rostock. The story of the ruler Sarastro, the Queen of the Night, her daughter Pamina and Prince Tamino will be performed unchanged with Mozart's unique music. However, the secret main character of the opera was already played by a popular actor with street credibility at the premiere in 1791: Emanuel Schikaneder, known at the time as a librettist, theater director and, above all, comedian, played Papageno himself! Now he is called Papagino, can rap and has three breakdancing boys around him, reinforced by dancing young people from the city and the region. In Zauberflöte Reloaded, beats stand next to coloratura, classical music next to headspins and the rap mic next to the baton. The Grosses Haus in the Volkstheater will become the stage for a spectacular coup de theâtre - including a midnight performance!
The work commissioned by the Mozartfest Würzburg was a huge success at its premiere in 2018 and has since toured to many sold-out venues. In Rostock, the piece is being staged for the first time as a city theater's own production with its own ensemble - with Christoph Hagel, the inventor of Flying Bach, Beethoven Next Level,Breakin' Mozart, as conductor and director.
"Zauberflöte reloaded" is the name of Volkstheater Rostock's new hit. The premiere was wildly celebrated by an audience that was just as mixed as the music and dance styles on stage [...] Artistically, it is all a great exchange of energies and passions from both directions: the enormous power from the underground and the newly inspired performance energy of the opera ensemble and orchestra.
