Geological excursion to the "Wüste und Glase" nature reserve and opencast gravel mine in Langhagen with expert Andreas Lemcke, explanation of the glacial formation of the region
The landscape of Mecklenburg Schweiz and Lake Kummerow Nature Park is a treasure trove of stones due to its glacial formation. There is a wide range of different stones here, known colloquially as boulders or erratic blocks and called boulders by experts. This year's geological excursion of the nature park first leads to the nature reserve "Wüste und Glase". From there you get a special impression of how the ice age glaciers worked. The tour then continues by car to the open-cast gravel mine in Langhagen, where an oser, an ice-age mound, is quarried. The boulders unearthed there are described with expert explanations. Andreas Lemcke from Berlin has been invited to take part and will identify these stones according to their type, origin and formation. It gets really interesting when stones with fossils are found.
The meeting point is in Vollrathsruhe at the observation tower.
