Lecture on the practical benefits of Eugen Geinitz's work for regional geology
Geology in the past and today. In his lecture, Andreas Buddenbohm from the Geowissenschaftlichen Verein Neubarndenburg e.V. will show how Eugen Geinitz developed geology in Mecklenburg. Geinitz was not only the scientist who devoted himself to the inland ice theory and the evidence for the former glaciation of our region, but also attached great importance to the practical use of geology and the geological survey from the first day of his work in Rostock. Mineral resources such as clay, sand and gravel played just as important a role as chalk lime, which was still burned in numerous lime kilns in the Müritz region in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Not to forget: the public drinking water supply, which also developed in Mecklenburg during the time of his work.
The lecture is part of the program accompanying the current special exhibition "Eugen Geinitz - Exploring the Ice Age Landscape in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern".
Anyone interested is cordially invited to immerse themselves in the ice age research of the past and present on this day.
The lecture is free of charge, a donation is requested.
