"Christmas traditions in households in Waren" #03

"Christmas customs in households in Waren" #03

Christmas is the most important festival of the year in Catholic Poland. It brings families together and is associated with many traditions - even among non-religious people. Which of the many customs are practiced in a German-Polish household in Mecklenburg today?

A very important part is the festive meal with a variety of dishes. Which dishes are prepared on Christmas Eve? Is there a certain order and number? What role does the wafer play?

In addition to the food, there are traditionally other things on the festive table, all of which have a symbolic and important meaning ... and we sing together! Many Christian Christmas carols, as well as folk songs, are passed down from generation to generation.

Ewa Wilk and Joanna Martis share the Polish festivities with us. In the festively decorated town hall, they talk about the old traditions and which ones are still particularly important today.
