Natalie and Jean-Luc are very much in love. They spend half the day planning their wedding and renovating their old Parisian apartment, and the other half caressing each other.
In the evening, they are expecting Christophe and his girlfriend Patricia for dinner. Jean-Luc has met his university friend after years in the city and has spontaneously invited him over.
Patricia has no desire to be dragged to a dinner by her boyfriend, with whom she has had a big argument, where she knows no one. Furious, she decides not to say a word the whole evening, which leads to the hosts mistaking her for a foreigner. When Patricia realizes the misunderstanding, she takes pleasure in joining in the perfidious game, inventing a fantasy language and claiming to have fled from a country in civil war. While Christophe wants to sink into the ground with shame, Patricia is able to smile again in the absurd situation and the conversations between the four of them turn out completely differently than expected ...
