Reading with Dr. Cornelia Nenz
To mark the Reuter Year 2024, Schwerin City Library invites you to a special reading of the Low German classic "Ut mine Stromtid" by Fritz Reuter: Dr. Cornelia Nenz, former director of the Fritz Reuter Literature Museum in Stavenhagen and a proven expert on Low German literature, will read from what is perhaps Fritz Reuter's most famous work.
"Ut mine Stromtid" is the third part of Reuter's autofictional trilogy, which, after "Ut de Franzosentid" and "Ut mine Festungstid", impressively depicts the author's experiences. The novel, which was first published around 1862, is considered a key work of Low German literature.
The reading marks the start of a series of events organized by Schwerin City Library as part of the "360° Reuter" funding project. It not only offers insights into life and rural society in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern in the mid-19th century, but also brings to life the significance of "Strom" in the cultural and historical context of the region. Dr. Cornelia Nenz, who is known for her numerous publications on the history and literature of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern as well as on the Low German language and the Reuter cosmos, will take the audience on an entertaining journey into the world of Fritz Reuter with her reading.
The reading is sponsored by the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, represented by the Ministry of Science, Culture, Federal and European Affairs, as part of the "360° Reuter" project.
