Federal Archives - Stasi Records Archive invites you to a panel discussion in Rostock
"Non-violent for democracy" - this was the motto under which tens of thousands of courageous citizens demonstrated against the SED dictatorship in Rostock on October 19, 1989. A panel discussion with Änne Lange and Johann Georg Jaeger recalls this dramatic time, its significance and results. Both interviewees were active in the GDR opposition in Rostock from the mid-1980s and are still involved in society today.
They will also discuss which values, ideas, consequences and lessons are still relevant today - because the hard-won liberal constitutional democracy is currently under considerable domestic and foreign policy pressure. The event will be moderated by Dr. Volker Höffer (historian, Federal Archive - Stasi Records Archive Rostock).
In addition, the Rostock photographer and author Reinhard Kramer will present photos that have never been shown before: "On the trail of the Peaceful Revolution in Rostock 1989/90".
