Silja is the Low German short form of the name Cäcilia. St. Cecilia is considered the patron saint of musicians, singers and poets. The musicians of Silja go "tradtuur" and celebrate the release of the album of the same name. Traditional music from Germany meets klezmer and jazzy influences. Groovy dance pieces meet ballads full of longing, baroque influences meet down-to-earth melodies - a sensitive and at the same time unerring balancing act between tradition and modernity. New compositions by the individual musicians find their place here just as much as new interpretations of traditional melodies. The musical affinity of the different cultures is always taken into account. The unusual line-up with various bagpipes, nyckelharpa, violin, guitar and cittern invites you to a varied and harmonious sound experience, full of surprises, virtuosity, joy of playing and magical moments. The debut album "tradfusion" was released in November 2020, followed by the second album "tradtuur" in January 2025.

Kristina Künzel, bagpipes / nyckelharpa, after classical training on recorder and guitar, her great passion is now the bagpipes and European dance music with its diverse currents, especially from Northern Europe. She has already toured with Schandmaul, played with Los Dilettantos and as a guest musician with various medieval bands. She has recently returned to her musical passion and plays folk and traditional dance music with Inlé-Rah, Satolstelamanderfanz and in her solo project, among others, and has learned traditional and modern playing techniques in courses with a wide range of European teachers and is constantly continuing her education. In 2017 and 2018 she completed the further education program "Music" at the "European Academy of Healing Arts".

Mark Kovnatskiy, violin, is a well-traveled and highly acclaimed violinist, composer and Yiddish dance expert. He performs and teaches at many music festivals worldwide, from North America to Japan. In addition to his projects with the "Semer Ensemble", "Torah Images", "Hamburg Klezmer Band" and "Joel Rubin Ensemble", Mark has also played as a guest musician with "Socalled" (KAN), "Aaron Alexander's Midrash Mish Mosh" (USA), "Painted Bird" (DE/USA), "Forshpil" (DE/RU) "Kharkov Klezmer Band" (UA) and teaches Yiddish music and Yiddish dance internationally. From 2009 to 2016 he worked as artistic director of the international festival "Yiddish Fest Moscow" (RU). In 2009 he was musical director of the festival "KlezmerFest" in Hamburg.

Ben Aschenbach, guitar / cittern, comes from Berlin, first learned concert guitar as a child and, after switching to electric guitar, studied jazz and popular music at the Hanns Eisler School of Music in Berlin. His broad musical spectrum ranges from classical music, folk and fingerstyle, jazz and blues, pop and rock to electronic music. Through his involvement as a theater musician at the Prinzenraub Festival and with the group Los Dilet tantos, he expanded his range of instruments to include the cittern. In the Trio Tsching, among others, he explores music from other cultures (tango, klezmer, bossa nova...) as well as new interpretations of German and European folk music.
