Treasures from the depot

On Monday, April 7, 2025 at 6 p.m., you are cordially invited to another event from the Treasures from the Depot series at the Museum der Barlachstadt Güstrow, Franz-Parr-Platz 10.

This time it's about "A viol with a history". A small special exhibition in the lower corridor area of the museum, an interesting lecture and original viola da gamba music will round off this joint event organized by the museum and the Kunst- und Altertumsverein.

Introduction:

Dr. Carsten Neumann, Museum of the City of Güstrow, reports on the rediscovery of a valuable instrument in the depot in 2023, the exciting research into the provenance of the viola da gamba from 1727, the contact with the family of the previous owner and thus links new findings and the plan to integrate the viola da gamba into the museum's permanent exhibition.

Lecture:

Prof. Friedemann Hellwig, Hamburg expert on historical musical instruments and well-known from the TV show "Kunst & Krempel", is coming to Güstrow for the second time to present the viola da gamba to the public and to look at the historically unique instrument in the context of his research.

Music:

Gertrud Ohse conducts the Vorpommern Early Music Orchestra, among others. She enjoys coming to her home town of Güstrow to musically whisk the audience away to the world of historical fretted instruments. Particularly exciting: Gertrud Ohse will play viols of various sizes and eras.
