The Wiek pastor, writer and painter Theodor Schwarz (1777-1850) had been a lifelong friend of Friedrich since his visit to Dresden in 1799. From 1806, Friedrich set off from Wiek on his journey to Rügen and will have been a guest at the Wiek vicarage. Theodor Schwarz described and defended Friedrich's pictorial programs more precisely than almost any other contemporary in his writings and in the three-volume novel "Erwin von Steinbach" - even after Friedrich's death.
