The unsuccessful actress Madeleine Verdier is unexpectedly accused of murdering a famous producer. On the advice of her best friend, the unemployed lawyer Pauline, Madeleine is asked to plead guilty, albeit in self-defense. What follows is a sensational trial in which the two young women impressively show up the old-fashioned men. Madeleine is acquitted and, as a new star, inundated with lucrative role offers. But then a witness to the crime turns up who wants to reveal the truth at all costs.
