Berlin in the near future: The scientist Alma works at the Museum of the Ancient Near East in the field of Ancient Near Eastern Studies. She is currently single and her life consists mainly of intensive research into certain Sumerian cuneiform scripts and the regular care of her father, who suffers from dementia, which she shares with her sister Cora. In order to obtain urgently needed research funds, Alma is persuaded to take part in an unusual study: she is to live for three weeks as a product tester with a humanoid robot from the company Terrareca, which is designed to embody the "perfect life partner".
Ich bin dein Mensch (international title I'm Your Man) is a German feature film by Maria Schrader from 2021. The melancholy comedy is about the encounter between a woman (played by Maren Eggert) and a humanoid robot (Dan Stevens).
The film premiered in March 2021 in competition at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival and the lead actress Maren Eggert was awarded the Silver Bear for Best Acting Performance. Four German Film Awards followed in the same year, including in the feature film, directing and leading actress categories.
The film was released in German cinemas on July 1, 2021 by Majestic Filmverleih. Ich bin dein Mensch was selected as a German candidate for the 2022 Academy Awards. It was broadcast on December 22, 2021 as part of Film Wednesday on the German TV channel Ersten.
