Ornithological hike in the Große Rosin

When spring arrives in Mecklenburg Switzerland and the fields and meadows are cleared of snow and ice, the wild geese also return or stop off here on their way north. Thousands upon thousands of waterfowl have found an area where they can rest, sleep and find food in the Große Rosin on Lake Kummerow. Some of them will stay here for the summer to raise their young. Rare species such as red-throated and black-necked grebes, spoonbills and marsh harriers are also among them. With a bit of luck, white-tailed eagles and cranes can be spotted.

The Mecklenburg Schweiz and Lake Kummerow Nature Park will be offering an ornithological hike to the north-western shore of Lake Kummerow on Saturday, March 22. The fen meadows in this area have been rewetted for ecological reasons.

The meeting point is the parking lot in Kützerhof in the direction of Aalbude, where the hike will start at 10 am.

Participants should bring weatherproof clothing, footwear and some provisions.
