DIE SCHÖNSTE VERSION - Reading with Ruth Maria Thomas
The late noughties, early 2010s in a small East German town: Die schönste Version tells the story of Jella and Yannick, of the first great love that wants to do everything right. Until things go awry. Back in her childhood bedroom, Jella wonders how it could have come to this. She takes a closer look at her upbringing in Lusatia. Small towns and gravel pits, gangster rap and glittery lip gloss. To friends who carried her through so much. And the moment when Yannick's hands closed around her neck.
The most beautiful version is the story of an awakening, recognition and accusation: Ruth-Maria Thomas writes about becoming a woman, being a woman, about bodies, desires and deep abysses. Clever, radical and entertaining, Ruth-Maria Thomas tells of the most beautiful things in her sparkling debut novel. And the most terrible.
Ruth-Maria Thomas, born in 1993 and raised in Cottbus, worked as a social worker in youth welfare. She studied at the German Literature Institute in Leipzig and is co-founder of the erotic literary magazine Hot Topic! In her texts, which appear on the radio and in literary magazines, she repeatedly deals with the pitfalls of female socialization.
