Freely adapted from the world-famous novels by Ehm Welk Duration of performance: approx. 2 hours (including approx. 20 minutes intermission)
Kummerow in 1910, a few days before Easter. This is the time when the big vacation is about to begin and the older pupils will then move to the secondary school in Randemünde and be confirmed. But it is also the time when the superintendent regularly inspects the village school and the cowherd Krischan Klammbüddel returns to Kummerow from Africa. But it is also the time when the pagans of Kummerow get up to some particularly wild pranks. These range from the pagan Waleien to the baptism of pagans in the mill stream. Two men meet on the village street. Do they know each other? Who are they? Are they Martin and Johannes, who meet again here in Kummerow years after their separation as grown men to reminisce about the funny pranks of their childhood? What has become of the two boys who once left Kummerow for Randemünde and Middelkow over the years? And how do they look back on their childhood and their beloved home of Kummerow? They probably remember HOW IT ALL BEGAN with a lot of wit and humor.
