Musical devotion on Good Friday
In 1856, Grand Duchess Marie Wilhelmine Friederike donated a copy of Raphael's painting "Christ Carrying the Cross" to the parish on the centenary of its foundation. Since then, the painting has hung above the altar and was extensively restored in 2018 after being damaged by vandalism.
During the service on Good Friday, selected organ works by Marcel Dupré, Karl Hoyer, Nicolas de Grigny, Enjott Schneider and Johann Sebastian Bach will be played to accompany individual sections of the painting.
