Open air spectacle: experience Johann Strauss' masterpiece in a breathtaking atmosphere at Rheinsberg Castle
The Eisensteins' marriage is no longer running smoothly, their maid Adele dreams of stardom and Dr. Falke has a very personal score to settle: What begins touchingly in the middle-class living room turns out to be pure hypocrisy at the masked ball of the eccentric Prince Orlofsky - and in the end, all the characters meet again in prison. There they are ashamed to realize that they are all fools!
Strauss' masterpiece is the execution of a seemingly perfect revenge plan full of trials and tribulations, hollow friendships and imposture - but also wet champagne bliss and incorrigible humor. In addition to the numerous choral and ensemble numbers, the dances turn the play into a spectacle: with polka, march, Hungarian Csárdás and the Viennese waltz, a musical comedy orgy is unleashed in the Rheinsberg castle courtyard.
The winners of the International Singing Competition of the Rheinsberg Castle Chamber Opera 2025 will perform, bringing the whimsical characters of "Die Fledermaus" to life with charisma and virtuoso vocal artistry. At the end of the evening, it's not just on stage that the audience will shout: "Ha, what a party, what a night full of joy!"
To mark Strauss' 200th birthday, Kammeroper Schloss Rheinsberg presents a new version of the operetta classic: the exclusive orchestration for salon orchestra brilliantly emphasizes the substance of Strauss' master score. Composer Christian van den Berg - known in Rheinsberg as the conductor of "Martha oder der zerbrochene Spiegel" (2019) and "Hänsel und Gretel" (2022) - follows the tradition of the 2nd Viennese School around Arnold Schönberg, which rearranged well-known Strauss waltzes. A completely new sound experience for the Rheinsberg audience and a highlight of our festival summer!
