Where the "Iron Curtain" divides Europe. A search for traces by bike from Sopron/Hungary to the Baltic Sea
The "Iron Curtain" consisted of walls, fences, barbed wire, mines, watchtowers and border posts. It was a deadly demarcation line that separated East and West. Thousands of people died there for their desire to lead a life of freedom. Fortunately, that is now history. Today, a cycle path runs along the former death strip, stretching almost 10,000 km from the Black Sea to the Barents Sea in northern Europe. In Germany, it is also known as the "Green Belt".
Peter Sense, the evening's speaker, traveled along a section from Hungary to the Baltic Sea. On this evening, he will show and tell what he discovered during this 40-day search for traces along the "Iron Curtain", what insights he gained and which places of remembrance touched him. A warm welcome!
