When Jana is discharged from hospital after her nervous breakdown, her worried husband Dirk takes her to an old farmhouse to recover - far away, in the middle of nowhere. Not the best choice, because even on arrival the emotionally fragile woman is plagued by an uneasy feeling. Then Dirk's eccentric sister turns up, who quickly takes him and the house for herself. Further unsettled by the ghost stories that the amiable landlord Georg likes to tell during his visits, reality begins to blur with fantasy for Jana.
