Ballets by Xenia Wiest, Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich Music by Igor Stravinsky performed by the Mecklenburg State Orchestra
Big orchestra in the big house! At the beginning of the twentieth century, Igor Stravinsky revolutionized not only music, but also the world of dance. Today, it is impossible to imagine the international repertoire without his ballets and Igor Stravinsky is considered the most important ballet composer of the twentieth century. Together with the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Staatskapelle Schwerin, the dancers of Ballett X Schwerin will bring new freshness to the two ballets Petrushka and The Firebird.
Petrushka, the second of Stravinsky's ballets, premiered in Paris in 1911. For Petrushka, which has become the "choreographic spectacle of the eternally unhappy hero of the fairs" (Sergei Dyagilev), Xenia Wiest was able to win over the choreographer team Iratxe Ansa and Igor Bacovich, who will be creating for Ballet X Schwerin for the first time.
First performed in Paris in 1910, The Firebird is one of the most popular ballets of all time. Based on Russian folk tales, it tells of captivity, oppression and death, which are defeated by reason and beauty. The choreography will be created by Xenia Wiest.
