Exhibition shows the diversity of the autism spectrum With a portrait exhibition, the State Association of Autism M-V is drawing attention to itself and its voluntary work in the town hall in Bad Doberan from April 12, 2025 in reference to International World Autism Awareness Day. On display are pictures created by people on the autism spectrum. On display are collages, painted works, photos and shadow paintings.
The reason for the exhibition in 2024 was the 15th anniversary of the voluntary national association. At that time, the association called for people to submit their own pictures. Children, women and men from the spectrum participated artistically. The individual portraits are complemented by personal details from their autistic experiences. In this way, the exhibition presents the diversity of the autism spectrum in different ways. "With this exhibition, we show that autism has many faces. You can't tell from a face what is hidden inside a person. It's the same with the autism spectrum. Its manifestations and how we perceive them are very different," says Rosita Mewis, Chairwoman of the regional association.
The photo exhibition was first shown to participants at the association's two-day future conference in Stralsund in November 2024. It will now be on display in Bad Doberan Town Hall from April 12, 2025. "We are delighted to be able to make our portrait exhibition accessible to the general public. Once again, we can raise public awareness of the topic of autism. We are very grateful to the town of Bad Doberan for this," says Rosita Mewis.
