An eccentric Englishman in France: Gilles Legardinier adopts his own novel with a sense of situation comedy - and a great ensemble cast

France/Luxembourg 2023, Director: Gilles Legardinier, Length: 110 min.
Based on the novel "Monsieur Blake and the Magic of the People"
DA: John Malkovich, Fanny Ardant, Philippe Bas and others.

Andrew Blake, who has just been named "Entrepreneur of the Year", has been a widower for four months and is tired of life. He sets off from London to France, to the Domaine de Beauvillier, where he met his wife Diane. He wants to spend some time there with his memories as a paying guest. Instead of a room, however, he is given a job as a butler by the widowed lady of the manor, Nathalie. Various comic plot lines are thus pre-programmed.

Legardinier creates a wonderful atmosphere for his characters and the audience in his film. He uses all the means at his disposal: situation comedy, colportage and farce and conflicts charged with humor. The ensemble is great - especially Malkovich as an ironically gifted observer and Ardant as a weary lady.
