What a people: Schwerin Caricature Prize for the Day of German Unity 2024
The Kulturforum is presenting a major exhibition on the Schwerin Caricature Prize, which the State capital Schwerin has organized together with the Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Schwerin Foundation to mark the occasion.
The motto "What a people" offers a unique opportunity to shed light on the role of caricatures and cartoons as a mirror of social change. They act as a critical companion to the developments of the last 34 years, since the historic moment of reunification.
170 selected caricatures comment on the challenges of German reunification in their very own way - often as cheeky as they are clever and subtle. Clichés about East and West, about "the Germans", their embarrassing habits or their endearing quirks are shown with a sharp pen. The satirical drawings always poke a finger into social wounds and yet are hilarious and full of wit.
Exhibition until 24.11.2024, sponsored by the Sparkasse Mecklenburg-Schwerin Foundation
