Ruins. Trophies. Palms" - a Schumann fantasy
The artists:
Johann von Bülow, recitation
Annika Treutler, piano
The musical focus of the evening is Robert Schumann's great C major Fantasy. It is probably the most monumental work from Schumann's first creative period
The biographical background to this powerful composition is evidenced by several passages from Schumann's letters, which reflect the unhappy and melancholy mood of the summer of 1836 (Schumann was 26 years old at the time) about his supposedly unhappy love for Clara and are reflected in the first of the three movements in particular. However, the origin of the Fantasie in C major is different: Robert Schumann wanted to use the proceeds from a large sonata to contribute funds for the erection of a Beethoven memorial and initially titled its movements Ruinen, Trophäen, Palmen (Ruins, Trophies, Palms). The artists took this designation and formed the title for the event from it: "Ruinen. Trophies. Palms." - a Schumann fantasy".
Texts and letters related to the composition will be recited.
