A lecture on the relationship between Anton Bruckner and Richard Wagner by Marc-Enrico Ibscher
For Bruckner, Wagner was the most revered being after God. Wagner described Bruckner as the greatest symphonist since Beethoven. Bruckner's admiration for Wagner can also be found in his work. This lecture traces this and the encounters between the two masters with numerous musical examples and some pictures in a multimedia presentation.
MARC-ENRICO IBSCHER became enthusiastic about classical music, especially that of Richard Wagner, at an early age through his parents' acquaintance with the singer Rudolf Schock. From 1994 to 2017, he served on the boards of the Wagner Societies in Hamburg and Flensburg for many years. He made his debut as a lecturer in Flensburg in 1993, then in Hamburg from 1999 and subsequently lectured for many years at the Wagner Museum in Graupa and at other Wagner Societies. Ibscher's main focus is on the musical environment of his favorite composer Richard Wagner, e.g. Anton Dvorak, Johann Strauss, Giacomo Puccini, Wilhelm Kienzl, Robert Schumann, Georges Bizet, Friedrich Flotow and especially Anton Bruckner.
