Tragicomedy by Ruth Toma, Low German by Kerstin Stölting
"You know in your seriousness that you won't die?"
Lothar is a hard-working owner of a tile store, divorced, at odds with his daughter and generally not a philanthropist. After a fatal diagnosis, he quickly ends his life and moves into a hospice. There he meets Rosa, a fellow sufferer with whom he unexpectedly becomes friends. He also reconciles with his daughter Mira in view of his approaching death. But the cancer was a misdiagnosis. Lothar will not die. How can he go on living now that he has already sold his house and company, taken his beloved dog to an animal shelter and donated his entire fortune to this very shelter? Completely destitute, Lothar is forced to accept help from other people - and this changes him.
Ruth Toma, screenwriter of well-known films such as Der Junge muss an die frische Luft, describes in Ruhe! Here Lothar dies describes a misanthrope's path to a positive attitude towards life. Awarded a special prize for outstanding screenplay at the Baden-Baden Film Festival in 2021, the warm-hearted tragicomedy was successfully adapted for the stage at Theater Kiel the following year. This season, the Fritz Reuter Bühne is now staging the Low German premiere.
