The Förderverein "Kröpeliner Mühle" e. V. invites all Plattsnacker and friends of the Low German language to the Plattsnacker meeting!

The association "Kröpeliner Mühle" e. V. invitesall Plattsnacker and friends of the Low German languageto the Plattsnacker meeting!

Every second Thursday of the month at 3 pm friends of the Low German language meet at the mill in Kröpelin. The Low German language blossoms in new splendor during relaxed conversations and the exchange of short anecdotes. Low German is a valuable cultural asset of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern that must not be forgotten. That is precisely the aim of these meetings. Even those who understand Low German but do not speak it well or at all are welcome to take part in these meetings. Admission is free of charge.

Low German is a regional language and not a dialect. This language is spoken in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Hamburg, Bremen, Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein as well as in the northern parts of Brandenburg, North Rhine-Westphalia and Saxony-Anhalt, although there are considerable regional differences. Thus, completely different terms can be used from village to village.

One particularly long Low German word is "Iesenbahnbomupundaldreiher". This Low German word is much longer than the High German "Schrankenwärter" New words in Low German are "Ackerschnacker" and "Strommoehl". A beautiful word that secured the title of the most beautiful Low German word in 2015 is "kommodig", which means something like "cozy" and "comfortable". And so are the meetings of the Plattsnacker in the Kröpeliner Mühle - kommodig bi Kaffee un Koken. Low German is a friendly language in which even swear words sound affectionate.
Your wishes and suggestions for our meetings are always welcome!

We look forward to kommodig afternoons full of conversation and conviviality. If you have any questions, please call us on 0173 5303676.
