"Telemann in the tavern" - A breath of fresh air on historical instruments
On 02.08.2025, the ensemble I Zefirelli will perform works by Georg Philipp Telemann. Under the title "Baroque meets folk", the musicians will play their program in the field of tension between baroque works and 18th century folk music.
Georg Philipp Telemann liked to be inspired by the folk music of his time. He was demonstrably very fond of Polish dance music in particular and incorporated it into many of his instrumental works. The concert evening promises an extremely varied program with lively polonaises, profound sonatas, touching songs, magnificent overtures and witty arias.
Founded in Hamburg, the ensemble I Zefirelli is a breath of fresh air in early music. Since 2017, I Zefirelli has brought together six musicians with a wealth of solo and chamber music experience who have dedicated themselves to historically informed performance practice and inspire audiences with their captivating and lively interpretations. The ensemble is named after Zephyr, the god of the west wind, who is also known as the messenger of spring.
The ensemble has already performed at various European festivals, such as the Göttingen International Handel Festival, the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Festival de musique Baroque d'Ambronay and the York Early Music Festival. I Zefirelli is a prizewinner of the International H.I.F. Biber Competition 2019 and the göttingen händel competition 2021.
