Opening of the exhibition JUNGE KUNST AUS NORDEUROPA on March 22 at 5 p.m. with young art positions from Germany and Denmark.

JUNGE KUNST AUS NORDEUROPA explicitly promotes young art positions. This year's exhibition presents ceramics by Lasse Johannes Köhler (Wismar), drawings by Benjamin Sasserson (Odense/Denmark) and film/video by Lena Friemel (Greifswald). The exhibition is accompanied by a catalog. The artists will receive a one-month residency at Künstlerhaus Lukas.

Exhibition opening on Saturday, March 22, at 5 p.m.

Duration at the Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop: 22.3.-26.5.2025 / Wed-Mon 10 am-5 pm

The exhibition is a cooperation with the Caspar David Friedrich Institute at the University of Greifswald, the Faculty of Design at Wismar University of Applied Sciences, Fyns Grafiske Værksted in Odense/Denmark, the Baltic Sea newspaper and the Kunstverein zu Rostock.

Lena Friemel (*2000) is an artist and designer from Berlin. She completed her Master of Arts in Fine Arts with a focus on New Media and Applied Graphics at the University of Greifswald, where she had previously completed her Bachelor's degree.

Her artistic focus lies at the interface between traditional art techniques and modern digital media. She uses 3D design, graphics, virtual reality and audiovisual production to create works that are both aesthetically and content-wise appealing.

Her projects often address current social and feminist issues as well as autobiographical themes. She was awarded the Insomnale Art Prize 2024 for her artistic achievements, which is linked to a working scholarship at Künstlerhaus Lukas Ahrenshoop, an exhibition at Neues Kunsthaus Ahrenshoop and a catalog grant. Lena Friemel has currently been nominated for the Rostock Art Prize .

Benjamin Sasserson, born in 2000 in Skørping, Denmark, is a young artist who lives in Odense and studies at the Funen Art Academy. Initially focusing on figurative painting, he has more recently expanded his practice to drawing and printmaking, exploring in particular the techniques of etching and mezzotint.

In his graphic work, he is fascinated by the powerful simplicity of line, using light and shadow to create striking, atmospheric images. His drawings move between darkness and luminosity, in which objects emerge from the shadows and become tangible or abstract in a play of light and darkness.

The themes in Sasserson's work revolve around longings and dreams, with the aim of revealing and expressing an inner, personal narrative. This narrative is viewed through an allegorical lens and connects the individual inner world with a shared, collective reality. In 2023, he had a solo exhibition titled He Never Said a Mumbling Word at the FAA Project Room. In 2024 he participated in the group exhibition Vessels at Cabin Gallery.

Lasse Johannes Köhler (*1998 in Schwerin, Germany) is an emerging artist living in Wismar and studying his Master in Material Culture at the Wismar University of Applied Sciences, Faculty of Design. He previously completed a diploma in product design there (2024).

In his diploma thesis, Köhler devoted himself to the subject of dust, which he explored from a unique aesthetic and artistic perspective. For him, dust is more than a physical phenomenon - he sees it as a poetic element, an "invisible friend" that inspires him to perceive the hidden and overlooked. This interest in the barely perceptible forms the core of his artistic work: he makes the hidden visible and invites us to discover beauty in the invisible.

His creative focus is on ceramics. With experimental glazes that move in abstract, flowing forms between attraction and irritation to the point of disgust, he creates works that challenge perception. Music and philosophy have been central sources of inspiration for Köhler since his youth - they drive his artistic work and shape his exploration of material and form.

In 2022, together with Nele Wippermann, Moritz Wippermann and Charleen Dahms, he founded the artist collective Inserat_8000, with which he successfully participates in trade fairs and exhibitions. His highlights to date include: Melanit (2022), satellite DIA annual exhibition, Faculty of Design, Wismar University of Applied Sciences; Krokusse wachsen nicht gern allein (2023), Galerie Hinter dem Rathaus, Wismar; exhibition stand Inserat_8000 (2023), KunstMitte, Magdeburg and exhibition stand Inserat_8000 (2024), Künstlermesse Dresden.

Köhler's work combines philosophical reflection with artistic research and opens up new perspectives on the everyday. His art makes us think - about what we see and what often remains hidden.
