Reading with Roman Israel as part of the 23rd Ahrenshooper Literaturtage
Sorry, writes the book's narrator, who is thrown off course and quits his well-paid job in Leipzig in order to lead a nomadic lifestyle and travel the world as a backpacker. On the train journey to Kraków, he falls in love with the mysterious fortune teller Monica. An erotic liaison develops between the two. He unintentionally settles down with Monica in Nowa Huta, Kraków's easternmost district, which was once built as a workers' housing estate for what was then Poland's largest steelworks. But then Monica suddenly disappears without a trace and he is faced with a mystery.
Roman Israel, born in Löbau in 1979, realized one day that his apartment and everything he owned was sticking to his leg like blocks. So he decided to get rid of it and move around the country as a nomad, living out of a suitcase. Today he lives as a freelance writer in Leipzig and Dresden. His published novels to date include "Caiman und Drache" (2014), "Flugobst" (2017) and "Nektar Meer" (2022). As part of the long-established Dresden reading stage Sax Royal, he has also been performing new texts live on stage every month for 19 years.
