Reading with Fritz Kleinhempel as part of the 23rd Ahrenshooper Literaturtage
Fritz Kleinhempel spins sailors' yarns - on the side and on land. It will be a while before his book "Blicke vom Navigationskirchturm" is finished. But he is happy to give samples of the daringly funny to ludicrous stories that Öping, the sailor, told his grandson, exactly as they happened: That it was not Darwin but the young Öping who founded the theory of evolution; how he had a crush on Florence Nightingale in Constantinople; how he invented the Blue Ribbon; how it was not Empress Eugenie but Öping who opened the Suez Canal; how he was even German Emperor for a time in 1888, etc. pp. There are also hostoric pictures to see. (A book project published by Leonhard-Thurneysser-Verlag Berlin & Basel)
The author
Brigitte Fretwurst's seafaring relatives in the Baltic resort of Wustrow gave the writer, editor and publisher a taste for the history of sailing shipping, rich in adventures and curiosities, which came to an end in the 19th century. Dr. Kleinhempel's sailor's yarns then seem less like hair-raising (sea) robber's tales, they impress more with their astounding logic and the thoroughly humanistic nature of this literary genre.
