Celebrating the Art of Big Band
The Monday Night Big Band (MNBB) from Malmö will perform a tribute to two legends of jazz together with Sinne Eeg, Denmark's most popular jazz vocalist in Germany. In 2023, trumpeter, arranger and composer Thad Jones, an icon of big band jazz, would have been 100 years old. In 2025, it will be 47 years since the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Big Band recorded the classic album It Only Happens Every Time with Monica Zetterlund, Sweden's most famous jazz singer, as the vocal soloist.
Sinne Eeg tours all over the world and has fans in Europe, the USA and Asia. She has sung in renowned American jazz clubs such as the Green Mill in Chicago and Birdland in New York. She has also performed with American greats such as pianist/organist Larry Goldings and drummer Peter Erskine, has won four Danish music awards, the French Prix du Jazz and was awarded Queen Ingrid's Honorary Scholarship directly from the hand of Queen Margarethe of Denmark.
The MNBB was founded in 1988 by jazz musician and composer Jörgen Nilsson in honor of Thad Jones and consists of the region's best professional jazz musicians. Since its foundation, it has given more than 1,500 concerts. Tours have been undertaken in Denmark, France, Norway, Italy, Germany and the USA. The MNBB has given concerts at the renowned Village Vanguard and Carnegie Hall in New York under the motto Swedish Jazz Salutes USA.
