An evening against wars with Gina Pietsch and Bardo Henning

The great Carthage fought three wars,/ It was still mighty after the first,/ Still habitable after the second,/ It could no longer be found after the third. -Bertolt Brecht

"When I was young, I also admired Brecht for these words. But they were far away from me, they only concerned me because of the history. Now they have come close to me, and I wonder whether the Bellicists in my country and my world are not as frightened as I am. Who hasn't spoken out on this question of all questions, war or peace? Our evening could have been five times as long with just my repertoire. (...) It is very encouraging that there are so many anti-war songs and lyrics in history, quite a few of them written at the risk of the authors' lives, but with great wisdom and enviable courage. The songs and lyrics are contemporary witnesses and contemporary history." - Gina Pietsch

The singer and actress Gina Pietsch will perform songs and texts by Tucholsky, Kästner, Gilbert, Brassens, Gundermann, Fühmann, Degenhardt and, of course, Brecht, accompanied by Bardo Henning on the piano.

GINA PIETSCH studied German and music at the Karl Marx University in Leipzig, followed by a degree in chanson with Gisela May at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. She also holds an acting degree from the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin and considers the great Brecht actor Ekkehard Schall to be her most important teacher. Gina Pietsch has now performed eighty solo evenings, thirty of them on Bertolt Brecht, the others based on texts and music by Bachmann, Braun, Degenhardt, Eisler, Fried, Goethe, Hacks, Heine, Jara, Theodorakis, Tucholsky, Weill and others.

BARDO HENNING, composer and pianist, studied at the University of Music in Graz. He has been working with the Experimenti Berlin orchestra since 1985, with 16 musicians from Berlin and Europe. His composition Tag der deutschen Einheit 1998 became a media scandal due to the inclusion of the GDR anthem. From 2003 to 2005, he realized the street opera "Achmed's Dream" with 45 young people. He works on productions for radio and television stations in Germany and abroad and also composes music for film and theater.
