Ludwig van Beethoven
With the performance of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 on New Year's Eve, the Norddeutsche Philharmonie Rostock is following a more than 100-year-old tradition from Leipzig. There, in 1918, the Gewandhaus Orchestra under Arthur Nikisch performed this work to welcome in the New Year 1919 with the final chorus on Schiller's Ode To Joy. The work will be performed again in the main hall of the Rostock Volkstheater on the last three evenings of the year under the direction of chief conductor Marcus Bosch.
