The Stralsund City Library is delighted to once again welcome the Stralsund photo community to its premises with an exhibition. Under the title "Paths", the members of the Fotostammtisch present impressive photographs that deal with the symbolic and real meaning of paths. The exhibition is accessible free of charge from April 14 to May 23, 2025 during the regular opening hours of the city library. Interested parties are also cordially invited to the official opening on April 23, 2025 at 6 pm.
"Paths" - a multifaceted theme
Several years ago, the photo community came up with the idea of choosing "Paths" as the theme for the exhibition. It was only through an intensive examination of the subject that the complexity of this theme became apparent. Paths connect places, tell stories and stand for movement, development and change in equal measure.
The etymology of the term "path" goes back to the Germanic "Vega" and developed via the Old High German "Wec" ("to move, to travel") to its current meaning. The first paths were simple tracks used by people and animals. Later, roads, trade routes and transportation routes by water, air and rail were created.
The word "path" has also acquired numerous symbolic meanings in language. Well-known phrases such as "many roads lead to Rome", "on the road to recovery" or "the last road" bear witness to the deeply rooted metaphorical nature of this term.
