For several years now, the BürgerStiftung Neubrandenburg has been inviting people from the city and region of Neubrandenburg to a joint picnic around the summer solstice on the 3rd Friday in June, so that they can spend some wonderful hours together on the beach of the beautiful Lake Tollensesee in a peaceful atmosphere.
The response in recent years has been overwhelming. Up to 1,000 people of all ages from different social backgrounds have taken up the invitation and met up for an informal evening together on the lakeshore, chatting and getting to know each other.
The BürgerStiftung Neubrandenburg project is prepared and organized by almost 50 active volunteers, supported by in-kind contributions from entrepreneurs in the city.
Stalls will be set up on the beach area, where the volunteers will be handing out homemade cake dough for young and old to bake in fire bowls, grilling Thuringian sausages and playing a live band on a small stage for dancing on the lawn. All offers are free of charge - except for the interesting drinks sold by the Aloha Beach Bar. The fact that the activities are free of charge should contribute to an atmosphere of "welcome" and enable people from less privileged economic backgrounds to participate fully. Participants can and should also bring their own drinks, food, seating or loungers.
Donations are welcome - the campaigners are hoping for lots of coins and bills in the donation boxes so that they can continue to support the aims of the community foundation, projects by initiatives and associations active in the fields of art and culture, education, training and sport. The BürgerStiftung Neubrandenburg is committed to promoting civic involvement in the community.
