Reading & Discussion | Moderation: Joachim Dicks (NDR Kultur)
Dying is something that affects others. The old perhaps, the sick. But what if death is closer than you think? Katja Lewina has known for two years about her heart condition, which could cost her her life at any time. The diagnosis came shortly after the sudden death of her seven-year-old son. All of a sudden, the possibility of dying became part of her everyday life.
What does finiteness do to love? How do you explain it to children? What do we get out of our lives: should we take it easy for the sake of our health or step on the gas? How do others react to illness and death? Are there right and wrong words? What should be clarified, what should be forgotten? Lewina addresses these questions in eleven essays in an unsentimental, honest way - without any carpe diem bullshit.
Katja Lewina was born in Moscow in 1984 and studied Slavic studies as well as literature and religious studies. She worked as a freelance editor and in artist management.
